💰⁉️ $300+ MILLION UNBUDGETED SPENDING??
This month we heard a lot about belt tightening from our council, one particularly worrying thing we heard was 'we are staring down about $3.7mil in unbudgeted spending this year alone.'
Whilst fiscal prudence is always to be applauded - we need to be extra careful on substantial claims of budgetary pressure, especially when we're reporting nearly doubling our budget surplus to $11.5mil in the mid year budget update.
By this method of bean counting - we have over $300million in unbudgeted spending for the year - because the 26/27 FY budget has not yet been handed down!
Are ratepayers being told that we're broke by time machine accounting just to justify a rate hike in the near future?
