Using our work
The Bo Report and Un-unanimous take a lot of reading to make. Every vote is read from the minutes, every promise from the documents members lodged, and every call is checked. You're welcome to use the work. This page says how.
Free, with credit
You can quote us, cite a figure, or describe what a member's record shows, in a news story, a report, a post or a class. You can use a screenshot of a single page to show what it says.
Credit us every time:
- Online or in print: "Source: Un-unanimous, The Bo Report (theboreport.au/ununanimous)", with a link to the page you used.
- On air or in a podcast: say "The Bo Report".
- Give the date the data runs to. It's at the foot of every page.
A short email to hello@theboreport.au when you publish is appreciated. It helps me correct anything that was misread.
Ask first
These need written permission:
- Copying our scores, phrases, tables, diagrams or member pages wholesale, or reproducing more than a few figures in one piece.
- Building your own dataset, database, chart series or ranking from our work: which votes test which promise, which way an in-line vote goes, the scores.
- Scraping, bulk downloading or any automated copying of the site.
- Paid or commercial use: reports, consultancy, briefings, subscription products.
- Any use in election or campaign material, by anyone. The Bo Report endorses no one.
Email hello@theboreport.au with what you want to use and where. Commercial and bulk use may carry a fee.
Report it as it is
- The record measures votes against promises. It says nothing about effort, character or motive.
- Use the words on the page. A member "voted against" a promise; the site doesn't say anyone broke one, and please don't attribute that to us.
- Name the promise in the member's own words, as quoted.
- Where Council was united, say so. A unanimous vote isn't a fight.
What isn't ours
The votes themselves are public. They're in the City of Perth's minutes, and anyone can read them there. You don't need us to report a vote. You need us to report our work: the matching of votes to promises, the scores and the analysis.
The minutes, the candidate documents and the councillor portraits are the City of Perth's and their authors', reproduced here as published. Ask them about reusing those.
