Let's start the conversation earlier this year, because by the time your bill arrives in the mail, it's too late.

I took a series of questions to Council this week because I believe the current model approved for advertising is deeply unfair. Along with the case study in these slides, here are the facts:

1๏ธโƒฃ 49% of residential owners are facing a 5% or more rate hike.

2๏ธโƒฃ Land bankers are seeing their rate burden reduced by around 25%.

3๏ธโƒฃ Even the least habitable residential properties are being asked for a 5.6% rate hike, with minimum rates lifting from $805 to $850.

Yet, in answering my public questions, I was told that ratepayers should be happy that rates are not going up 41% to match the violent rental market.

We have 21 days to make public submissions to our City. Let's all take the opportunity to ask the administration to draft something fair, equitable, and consistent.

The ratepayers who can least afford it need a helping hand, not to be gaslit into entrenched poverty.
