🍢How we got here 🚀
@savethekebab has kindly released the full suite of 104 documents received from the FOI request from the @cityofperth, so it's only fair I take the time to read through the pages.
While the full suite will no doubt take more time for us to digest, the timeline of events is quite clear - from where we were in 1971 to where we (and Boonji) stands in 2026.
It's a tale of two Cities.
🍢 The pathway to maintain, conserve and protect the Ore Obelisk was marred in red tape. Early warning signs were ignored and instead of birthday candles for its 50th, the Kebab got an oxy-torch.
🚀 The erection of the Spaceman on the other hand was meteoric; between the first email from Paul Gullotti on 27th of May 2024 to the unanimous support of Council on the 25th of June 2024, it took less than a month for Council to commit a quarter of a million dollars to a private gallery marketing shtick.
Looking forward to the debate in the chamber next Wednesday on the proposed digitization of the Kebab, this history provides interesting context for the next steps.
