Parking Fee Increase

Carried 7–1

Amended motion raising boom-gated, non-boom-gated and on-street parking fees from 1 May 2024, and keeping free night parking pending a review in April 2025. Three hours free at weekends and public holidays at three City car parks stays.

What it changed. Keeps the fee rises for boom-gated, non-boom-gated and on-street parking but drops the return of the $5 night rate, continuing free night parking subject to a review in April 2025.

Reasons given in the minutes. Like everybody in our community, we as a business are wrestling with the increased cost of doing business. Many of the Fees and Charges associated with doing business have gone up during this period post COVID. The cost of providing the very high level of services we do (events cleanliness safety amenity, administration etc.) is increasing and I am mindful that it Is a balancing act for our team, led by the Chief Financial Officer, to try and keep revenue coming in. When more revenue is required, it is usually when rate rises are required. I understand, and accept, the small increase in some parking fees, however as part of the Council team that were motivated to activate our city and provide opportunities to businesses and ratepayers who were struggling during COVID, the free parking after 6pm has resonated with the community. Free parking in every City of Perth car park after 6pm has sent a clear message that the City of Perth is open [one line removed by the reader] Whilst this free parking after 6pm cannot last forever, hence the review in 2025, another year feels right to cement the resurgent position of the City of Perth.
