OCM 28 FEB 2023 · ITEM 11.6 · NO RESOLUTION NUMBER

307-313 (Lot 500) Murray Street, Perth: Proposed Internal and External Alterations to Existing Building

Carried 8–1

Approves alterations to 307-313 (Lot 500) Murray Street, Perth, without the heritage condition keeping the rear ground floor of Tenancy 2 at its current level, so the original floor can be lowered to footpath level. The other conservation conditions stay.

What it changed. Deletes the heritage condition requiring the rear ground floor of Tenancy 2 at 307-313 Murray Street to be kept at its current level, so the applicant can lower and rebuild the original ground floor to footpath level (amendment starts p77, text and reasons p78).

Reasons given in the minutes. I am moving this amendment as foreshadowed last week, to allow the applicant to lower and reconstruct the ground floor level to match the level of the Murray Street footpath. As we heard in the chamber last week, this will likely allow the applicant to secure the high-end international brand tenant which has expressed a willingness to open in the Perth CBD at this site if the modification can be achieved. We note that existing timber floor frames and boards are proposed to be reused and the heritage ceiling will be enhanced. All other recommendations of the City will remain. It is my view this one change to City recommendations will allow [one line removed by the reader] the likely associated economic benefit and momentum this will bring. I am satisfied that the heritage essence of the building will not only be maintained but will in fact be enhanced and I ask my fellow councillors to support this notice of amendment.
